I’m Dennis Varney, a potter and painter from Paris, Kentucky. I’m a journalist whose career has included stops in northwest Indiana, Seattle (briefly) and St. Louis before a return to Kentucky to work in Lexington. I began making pottery in early 2016 and painting in 2019. Much of my work is inspired by my travels, the Earth and my surroundings, and by colors, textures, music and memories. A 2019 trip (and two return visits since) to experience the rocky coastline and blue-gray oceans of Maine and a longtime love of Radiohead’s music and lyrics, are major influences on my work.
